New European Cookie Law

Saveria Maroselli

The Cookie Law is a piece of privacy legislation that requires websites to get consent from visitors to store or retrieve any information on a computer, smartphone or tablet. If you own a website, you will need to make sure it complies with the law, and this usually means making some changes. The main question is: How do I comply?

That's where our friend Fabrice Crozier steps in :) He found a service which will very easily enable you to install a widget on your websites. It makes consumers aware of how information about them is collected and used online and also asks for their consent.

Free, easy to use, and hosted on the service's servers (it doesn't make your pages heavier), this is exactly what you need: http://cookieassistant.com/

How does it work?

When you click on Create a widget, you land on a page with a number of forms to fill in. You can instantly see the modifications on the widget shown on that page so you can have a preview of what it will look like on your site.

Once you have chosen the template, the widget position and your texts, you can link an article on your site explaining how you use cookies.

A small hint: Put your article in invisible if you do not wish to display it in your sections or home page, but it will be accessible from the widget link.

Once you've filled everything in, click on Create a widget at the bottom of the page, and you'll get a script. Copy then paste it in a container module in the footer of the Design menu of your back office.

Et voilĂ  ! Finished in less that 5 minutes :)
