We have recently added a new mode of calculation for the shipping rates to the store

Before there were only 2 possibilities for calculating shipping rates:

- without criteria (all the shipping rates were proposed);

- automatic calculation based on the total weight of the order.

Now we added automatic calculation based on  the basket amount

This new option can be interesting in case of voluminous but not heavy items.

While adding this option we made some other enhancements to the page:

- More explicit layout, for instance for the interval (Price/ Weight)

- Filter of the options which are not used.

- Search Filter for sorting the tariffs by country.

- Sort Criteria for tables, taking account of the filters.

- The threshold over which the shipping is free.

- In front office you cannot make an order from a country for which the shipping rates have not been created.

- There is no possibility to enter the delivery address to which the delivery can be fulfilled.

- Enhanced design of geographical zones.

Certainly, all the store holders  were notified  by email before the update was introduced.

We’ve recently modified the preview unpublished articles (draft in stock).

Before displaying the drafts, we verify that you have the right to view them. Otherwise, the error 404 is shown.

Specifically, we check if you are connected to the back office before authorizing you to view these articles at your website.

If you want to show an article to somebody who have no access to the back office, you can use the Invisible status.

Every Friday at the CampusPlex we hold a conference prepared by one of our corporate team members. This time it was Laurent Linza who made a very detailed speech on HTML 5 and the future of web apps.

Here is a video of this conference. You will see that HTML 5 opens up a lot of new opportunities for your favorite CMS. If you don’t use a web browser supporting HTML 5 yet, hurry up and change it! Keep up with the times! Otherwise, you risk missing the new features, which are being prepared by WM : )

Discount Vouchers coming to the Store

A new menu item is coming to the Store: Discount vouchers. From now on, you can distribute them to your customers.

It can be one-shot or mulstiple-use discount vouchers, which validity period

can be limited in time. Their value can correspond to a particular

sum of money (10€) or a percentage of the total order amount (10%).

How to use the Discount vouchers?
A fill-in field will be proposed at the step 5 of the order, i.e. in the order summary just before the payment. This field will appear only if there are some discount vouchers created earlier and at least one valid.

If you entry a valid code, the shopping cart will be updated with a new order amount. A new line
was added to the order detail.  The discount is applied to the Total order amount, i.e. VAT and transport charges
included.

The related online help is available online.

At WMaker, we have a list called "unnoticed new features". It includes all the new features put into production but which have not been promoted, except a couple of tweets by Jerome, Sebastien or myself.

I will thus take advantage of the SNS module's update to uncover other new SNS features that stayed unnoticed.

Customize your 403 and 404 pages
As you may already know, these are error pages. The code 404 corresponds to the "Not found" page, and the 403 error is "Forbidden".

If you have a domain name you can customize these pages. To do this go to the Menu > Administration > Favorites. It’s possible to choose a background color and the text to be displayed.

Warning! These are not the real pages, so no images, no links and no video are possible. These pages are not aimed at making referencing, but at showing to robots or users that there is an error.

The size of these two pages is strictly limited to several lines of text, some CSS and a link to go back to your home page.

Real time SEO at WMaker
Matt Cutts’s recent visit to Paris has created an important event in the world of SEO addicts. He has been interviewed a lot, and as each time when he appears in public, people have been hanging on his words.

For those who have no idea who Matt Cutts is, I will just mention that he is in charge of Google’s Search Quality group and his team plays a decisive role in development of search engine algorithms.

Here is his interview given to the web journal, where Matt Cutts explains the increasing importance of real time search for Google.

That’s very good news for the WMaker users who have their Twitter accounts.

Indeed, you know that WMaker automatically links your articles to your Twitter account. If you have not yet activated this option, hurry up!

WMaker is now compatible with iPad!
Today iPad is available in Europe. We’ve purchased our first iPad the day it was launched in New York, but it was stolen while being delivered. Fortunately, the second one has been safely delivered, which enabled us to explore its features.

In brief, it’s an awesome and the most easy-to use device ever.

The main iPad's shortcoming is that it has no Flash video support. Since all videos published on the CSM use a Flash video player, none of them has been readable on iPad. So, we have modified the application so that it could replace videos in H264 format, compatible with iPad.

Initially, we have used Flash video format (FLV) because this technology is required for our player.
Apple has refused Flash support in the iPad under the pretence that it consumes too many resources, which considerably reduces its autonomy. And the benchmark testing of our player has shown that it’s absolutely true. It was impossible to reduce down to 40% the use of processor for MacOSX.

The new HTML 5 provides native video support (no player needed) but in H264 format only. FireFox (30% of the market) refuses to integrate this format support because H264 is not open source. Google has bought ON2, an American company specialized in video codecs, renamed from VP8 to WebM and made it open source.

This pushes us to create videos in various formats to make sure your website could be readable at any platform. Working on our new WebTV offer has helped us to propose the iPad support in short time.

Langue idioma sprache idiom لغة lingua taal язык lingua 言語
Your favorite CMS becomes multilingual! From now on our websites will be available in 10 languages:
French, English, Spanish, Arabic, Japanese, Italian, Dutch, German and Russian; As for Corsican, it will come soon.

And that’s not all…The language could be chosen during your website creation, this functionality has been added to CMS offers and it’s now available for any WMaker portal.

Of course, you can change the language of your website afterwards, as before (related online help has been updated).

As for the back office, it’s now available in 5 languages: French, English, Spanish, Arabic and Japanese. Every member of your team could choose their native (or favorite) language for the back office. This functionality lets you create your international editorial team.

Furthermore, you will be able to choose the language for your blogs, while creating them at your back office or with the “create blog” option.
